Summary:

The HR Manager based in Juneau, Alaska, will oversee HR operations for Alaska Operations and act as escalation point for the HR team in the Juneau office. This role involves providing HR leadership, aligning HR practices with business strategy, and fostering a positive work environment. Key responsibilities include managing employee relations, talent management, recruiting, and ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws.

Qualifications

  • Must have broad HR expertise, strong business acumen, and be able to think big-picture and be resourceful in creating solutions
  • Must be able to diagnose and support data-driven decision-making and have demonstrated experience leading and driving change within client groups
  • Must possess good project management and organizational skills and have a strong attention to detail
  • Effectiveness in managing employee relations and resolving issues
  • Ability to rapidly react to and resolve issues
  • Ability to embrace change, learn quickly, and thrive in a dynamic corporate environment
  • Skill in working harmoniously within cross-functional teams to achieve common objectives
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers and with outside agencies, partners, shareholders, and business associates
  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to adapt messages and strategies for diverse audiences
  • Basic understanding of relevant software, tools, and systems used in the corporate environment. This includes a proficiency in standard software applications, including Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent years' experience
  • Minimum 5 - 7 or more years of Human Resource experience
  • Proven ability to manage employee relations issues, align HR practices with business strategy
  • Leadership ability to manage and develop the HR team
  • Ability to successfully pass an employment background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SHRM-CP; SHRM-SCP; PHR or SPHR
  • ADP Workforce Now and Deltek experience
  • Previous experience working with Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs) and/or previous exposure to Alaska Native cultures

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • HR Operations Management
    • Lead and manage the HR team in the Juneau office, providing strategic guidance, development, and mentorship to enhance team performance.
    • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for Alaska Operations. Collaborate with senior leaders and hiring managers to align staffing strategies with organizational goals and ensure the efficient placement of top talent.
  •  Employee Relations
    • Manage complex employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary actions, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and values.
    • Act as a key advisor to senior leaders and employees, providing strategic support on employee relations matters and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Compliance and Policy Implementation
    • Direct HR compliance efforts across Alaska, ensuring adherence to state and federal employment laws, including Alaska Native corporation regulations.
    • Lead the development and implementation of policies and procedures, driving initiatives that improve compliance and enhance the overall employee experience.
  • Culture and Engagement
    • Cultivate a positive and inclusive workplace culture that embodies Goldbelt’s values and promotes employee engagement and collaboration.
    • Partner with senior management to devise and execute strategic workforce planning and development initiatives that support current and future business objectives.
    • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to employee experience and engagement to drive continuous improvement.
  • Feedback and Collaboration
    • Provide strategic feedback to the HR Director regarding organizational challenges and potential areas for improvement.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional departments, including payroll, HR, and finance, to address and resolve escalated employee issues effectively.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Ensure the consistent application of HR policies and procedures within Alaska Operations and provide feedback for necessary adjustments based on regional needs and best practices.
    • Participate in or lead HR-related projects and initiatives as needed to support Alaska Operations and corporate objectives.
