Overview

Position Summary

The Bookkeeper is responsible for the administrative financial functions of the Goldbelt Heritage Foundation, a small Indigenous non-profit with about 20 employees. This role requires an understanding of Accounts Payable/Receivable, General Ledger, Data Entry, and Reconciliations. Further, they should have a commitment to supporting Indigenous cultural initiatives.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles (i.e., GAAP)
  • Ability to communicate with others (guests, coworkers, executives)
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers and with outside agencies, partners, shareholders, and business associates
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Possesses attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to adapt messages and strategies for diverse audiences
  • Basic understanding of relevant software, tools, and systems used in the corporate environment. This includes a proficiency in standard software applications, including Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or higher
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations.
  • Experience in QuickBooks Online and ADP
  • Valid Alaka Driver's License 
  • Ability to pass a background and credit check
  • Position will be exposed to multiple allergens including cedar and wool (sheep and mountain goat).
  • Must be willing to travel to local and regional events via plane, car, ferry, etc. as needed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Certification such as Certified Bookkeeper (CB) or equivalent

 

The salary for this position is $24-$28 per hour + DOE

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensures accounting is accurate and maintained in an orderly manner
  • Manages the Accounts Receivable and Payable process
  • Maintain records of receipts and other recordkeeping duties as needed
  • Prepare reconciliations (Bank, Credit Card, General Ledger, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements regarding expenditures
  • Assist with payroll preparation, ensuring timecards are approved before the set deadline
  • Grant recipient monitoring
  • Running errands as needed (bank deposits, supply runs, etc.)
  • Answer Finance department phone calls
  • Assist with email and phone responses regarding accounting questions
  • Collaborate with other departments to assist with any financial questions
  • Other related duties as assigned
