Goldbelt, Incorporated is an urban, Alaska Native, for-profit corporation with offices in Juneau, Alaska and Herndon, Virginia. Its primary purpose is to manage assets and conduct business for the benefit of its 3,900 Alaska Native shareholders. We are now accepting applications for the 2023 Season. SUMMARY Goldbelt Tram is seeking a Tram Maintenance Supervisor. The Tram Maintenance supervisor is responsible for of all phases of tramway maintenance activity and the performance of journeyman level electrical and/or mechanical work. Oversees practices that determine the aerial tramway is operational, and that all aerial tramway maintenance personnel are trained, equipped, and capable of performing their duties for public operation. Constantly monitoring factors affecting the safe and efficient operation of tramway cars and the control center.   Department: Operations Aerial Tramway Hours of Work: 40 hours Category: Regular Full-time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary/Grade Level: DOE Reports to (Supervises/Liaison): Tram & Facilities Manager (Tram Maintenance Technicians)

Goldbelt Tram is seeking Tram Maintenance Supervisor.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:



  •  Extensive knowledge of the operation of aerial lift or tramway facilities, terminals and related equipment; Knowledge of common industry practices and considerations; Knowledge of maintenance and repair requirements; and applicable building, ANSI, OSHA and health codes.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, disassemble, repair or rebuild systems and components of the facility and related equipment.

  • Experience using welders and torches for fabrication and repair of mild steel and aluminum components.

  • Ability to make work assignments, check the completed work, and guide/train a maintenance crew in normal operating and crisis situations.

  • Ability to function in a stressful environment.

  • Ability to balance and prioritize operating needs and schedules with available time and skills of maintenance crew to get the job done efficiently and effectively.

  • Ability to develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program/schedule and employee safety and emergency evacuation training program.

  • Ability to make decisions on maintaining and repairing equipment, systems, and components.

  • Ability to read and interpret tramway and lift blueprints, manuals, and warranty requirements.

  • Ability to physically rope evacuate passengers and self from cabin. Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to learn, understand and follow verbal and written instructions/directions. Ability to train staff in tram operations, emergency evacuation procedures, and basic customer service skills.

  • Ability to learn, understand, and follow verbal and manual instructions; learn and function within ANSI codes.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.

  • Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance on a daily basis. Ability/willingness to learn and pass on to passengers those areas of interest to visitors, such as local history, people, culture, geography, etc.


Minimum Qualifications:



  •  Two (2) years of experience working at an aerial tramway and /or ski lift operation that includes One (1) year of maintenance working with electrical controls, hydraulics and wire-rope.

  • May substitute (1) year tram related experience for an Associate degree or Certificate in Advanced Diesel Technology and (2) years on the job experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy machinery. One (1) year Lead/supervisory experience, including scheduling and training subordinates in any environment. Current CPR/AED and first aid certificates.

  • Current Rope access and/or Fall Protection certificate or achieve certification within 6 months after acceptance of job offer.


 


Preferred Qualification:



  • Five (5) years of experience in aerial tramway and/or ski lifts, gondola operations to include two (2) years’ work with electrical controls, hydraulics and wire rope.

  • Three (3) years lead/supervisory maintenance experience, including scheduling and training subordinates in any environment.


 


WORKING CONDITIONS Aerial tramway, lift and terminal environment (2000 ft. elevation); extreme heights and dangerous overhead work areas exposed to inclement weather conditions; extremely dangerous electrical and/or mechanical conditions and equipment. Routine movement in/out of an aerial tramway cabin as part of an aerial tramway and lift operation at an 2000 ft. elevation; constant public interaction and communication; constant exposure to extreme heights; periodic exposure to dangerous equipment during emergency evacuations or power failures. During emergency evacuations or equipment failure, expected to assist management. Must be able to hike trails to assist management in various emergencies (e.g., medical, missing persons, etc.) Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. of various tram equipment/supplies. The Tram is a non-smoking facility with designated outside-smoking areas. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, and bending are required. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to enter, exit, and ride an aerial tramway in order to reach the upper worksite.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:



  •  Responsible for ensuring that all required maintenance and repair work is performed by staff and/or contractors in accordance with state and local operational codes, ANSI B-77 code and manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Performs journey level electrical and/or mechanical work which includes troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing or rebuilding mechanical components or electrical systems; uses and supervises the use of tools per manufacturers’ instructions and specifications.

  • Supervises the maintenance and repair work performed by maintenance personnel and contractors, after troubleshooting and determining exactly what corrective work, methods, resources are needed.

  • Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program and schedule for all tramway structures and systems; expedites all materials needed to do preventative maintenance or repairs.

  • Provides training for maintenance staff in standby operations, generator operations and rescue car lift evacuations; participates in emergency lift evacuation upon notification by the General Manager.

  • Ensures that safety measures and equipment (i.e. harnesses, helmet, etc.) are taken/used at all times, especially when staff climb towers or ride on top of tram cars.

  • Ensures that subordinates are trained (including in emergency rope evacuation), equipped and fit to perform their duties.

  • Ensures that maintenance staff are available at all times during public operation of the tramway.

  • Makes staff assignments; schedules staff work, taking into consideration ongoing operational needs, availability of staff, equipment, parts, etc.; checks quality of work performed, all while guiding (and sometimes training) work crew to project completion.

  • Takes a lead role during absence of the Tram & Facilities Manager.

  • Constantly emphasizes the importance of customer service; monitors staff’s provision of the same, correcting weaknesses or problems.

  • Must insure that all time cards or pay sheets are reviewed, signed, and submitted in a timely manner.

  • Periodically reviews the operator’s manual with each new and returning employee; records all training per the ANSI code.

  • During operating hours, ensures the availability of at least one trained employee onsite to administer first aid.

  • Performs basic trouble shooting of tram systems and able to record/log faults and bypasses per ANSI code.

  • When necessary due to personnel understaffing, unexpected absences, or emergencies, may perform the duties of a Tram Operator or Tram Attendant; on call during the regular tram operating season and will assist the General Manager when needed.

  • Enforces operational and safety rules; always keeps General Manager and Tram & Facilities Manager informed regarding a condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation; monitors that all signs in the ramp area, safety equipment and rope evacuation equipment are in place.

  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
